Humans

Prior to the Shredding, humans were undoubtedly the most visible species on the planet. Their blood, while not the most dominant, was certainly the most common among those with mixed lineage. While very few humans are 100% of that species, the Veil ensured that all magical or non-human traits were efficiently suppressed. In the few breakthrough cases where humans did express magical talent, the Veil provided a magical cover to keep magic and the vulnerable bloodlines hidden from humans. After the Shredding, humans stratified based on the significance of their heteromorphic changes and their aesthetic value. Very few humans gained magical ability after the Shredding, though those with mixed blood who were allowed to go through their natural puberty did develop magic power within the expected parameters of those bloodlines. [Further studies about magical growth in cases of delayed or stunted puberty are being performed by Grui Whitherclaw and others in the field.]

Humans possess very little inborn talent for magic. While they are able to wield it in some cases, their magic does not trend toward any one discipline. In those with inborn talent, their magic is generally unreactive, trending clear and colorless when three-line tests are administered. Their technological prowess is instead their main form of defense.

Humans can be found in all corners of the world, except those protected and claimed by magicfolk. Their cultures are quite diverse and very from region to region. Humans can understand the Allspeak, but most cannot learn to speak it.

The average adult is between sixty-two and seventy-two inches tall. Humans are plantigrade, featuring five digits per limb. They are incapable of flight naturally, though they have demonstrated the ability to fly and glide with technological assistance. Several humans have demonstrated impressive abilities in the water, outperforming most land-bound species. They do not, however, survive long-term without access to land.

As one of a few sentient species on the opposite side of the Veil, not much is known about their history in its crafting. After the Shredding, many humans have taken a neutral or negative view of magicfolk, excluding former members of their community after magical heritage is revealed.
