Bailey Vanrook
She was somewhere between twenty-eight and thirty-six, though her license said the former...
Bailey Vanrook is a human, one of very few who can use magic naturally. As she will remind her clients, she is not a doctor, although she did complete her undergrad before dropping out. Now, she runs a clinic alongside Rama, offering tentatively legal advice to those who might not be able to see a doctor otherwise.
Personality
Bailey is fiercely protective of her clients and a vocal activist for alternate-lineage rights. She lives and breathes her job, to the point of neglecting her own health sometimes. While she is kind to the sick, injured, or young, she tends to treat the healthy with brusqueness or even outright hostility. While that’s not unusual for the types of folks who work at the clinic, it makes her few friends among the humans.
Despite her many faults, Bailey has proven her ability to work with a variety of people. She is mature enough to know when to bite her tongue, though when her temper bubbles over, even gods would flinch.
Her hobbies include studying medical texts, working on her Compendium, and advocating for sentient rights.
History
Because of her natural talent for magic, Bailey grew up interacting with a world no one else could see. It didn’t make her very many friends, even after she learned to hide it. Her parents believed her — they had seen too much not to — but the girl quickly learned that she could only make human friends if they never saw certain parts of her.
When her parents died, Bailey spent some time in Ireland, traveling to where her grandparents had been born. From there, she continued to mainland Europe. Somewhere in the mountains of Spain, she trained as a healer with a clan of Biglies. Once back in the US, she started offering her services under a healer’s oath. After the Shredding, she and Rama opened the clinic full-time. They’ve been struggling to keep it open ever since.
